We are very pleased to announce that Design Alaska was recently selected to be the designer of record for the FTW 336B Barracks project at Ft Wainwright. This barracks is a keystone project for the Aviation Task Force Phase 1 effort at Ft. Wainwright. This 276-person barracks provides separate 2-person suites and features a central core recreation area with a wall of windows on the second story that offers views of the Alaska Range. The project is designed to achieve a LEED Silver certification through the US Green Building Council. Highly energy efficient systems and a healthy indoor environment are some of our prime LEED goals with this project.
The project is awarded as a design-build contract that begins in April 2010 and will end in October 2011. In order to meet the design and construction schedule, we will utilize fast-track processes including split design packages and over the shoulder reviews. The design-build team is comprised of Kiewit Building Group, Design Alaska, and other key subcontractors. The facility is being provided to the Ft Wainwright Department of Public Works under contract with the Alaska District of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
We look forward to creating a quality signature facility with Kiewit Building Group and the rest of the project delivery team!
