Design Alaska leaders have made it their goal to provide every employee with a rewarding professional experience. They understand the importance of challenging Design Alaska’s employees with interesting projects and providing them with opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Following are some of the values and practices that define Design Alaska’s work place culture, and foster lifetime friendships:
- Continuing education for its employees is encouraged and supported by Design Alaska. Whether for personal or professional gain, employee expenses incurred in pursuit of university level continuing education, be it Legal Principals for Engineering Management or History of World Art, are fully reimbursed by Design Alaska.
- We are a holder of the Fairbanks North Star Borough Family Friendly Workplace Award given to those businesses that show exceptional respect for employees and their families.
- Design Alaska annually sponsors a company trip for the employee and one guest. In the past, we have participated in a Valdez fishing trip, Seward sightseeing trip, bus trip into Denali where we invited our Project Partnership from the 562 at Fort Wainwright to join us, Chena Hot Springs to participate in geothermal energy used from springs, and a Denali Train ride from Fairbanks and back.
- Informational Lunchbytes are given monthly to educate and inform employees on different social, economic, technical, and general topics. Lunchbytes have included topics on wills, living debt free, saving Energy in the home, a spouses perspective when a spouse is deployed, and cooking outside in a Dutch oven when it is -28 below.
- Contributions are made to employees children’s academic and sports teams.
- Design Alaska purchases two sets of Fairbanks Concert Association season tickets for employees to use.
- A Design Alaska company picnic is held annually where all employees and their families are invited, and also any of those out of town guest who might be visiting.
- A holiday dinner is held annually at the Turtle Club for an employee and their significant other. This includes all food and beverages.
- Design Alaska holds a Family Holiday Pot Luck where everyone brings a dish to be shared. Twelve and over bring a gift to be exchanged or taken by their fellow partiers when it is their turn to pick a gift from the tree or take a much sought after gift from another. All children 12 and under receive a gift from Design Alaska, twelve and over are at the mercy of the “adults” at Design Alaska.
