Community

Design Alaska is committed to Strengthen The Community; we partner with the community in many ways to enhance its appeal and compassion. We are a holder of the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Business in Arts Award given to those businesses that exhibit an unusual level of commitment to creating a robust artistic environment for the community in which they live. We believe in Fairbanks, and do what we can to make this a better community for all of us.

Community Participation

  • Design Alaska became the first private business in Fairbanks to receive the Green Star Award for environmental consciousness.
  • Design Alaska partners with the Fairbanks Symphony Association to bring to the community the annual Design Alaska Family Holiday Celebration Concert. A gift, a beveled glass ornament etched with a musical theme, is provided by Design Alaska to each family attending the concert.
  • Design Alaska partners with the Friends of Creamer’s Field to bring more attention to “the jewel in the middle of our city” by sponsoring the Design Alaska Wild Arts Walk. This event also provides another venue for local artists to display their talents. A gift, a coffee cup printed with a wildlife theme, is provided by Design Alaska to each person attending the event.
  • Design Alaska has been a sponsor of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival since it’s beginning in 1981. We are also a Headline sponsor for the festival’s Shakespeare classes.
  • Design Alaska is an active participant in Project Partnership through the Greater Fairbanks Chamber.
  • In the past we have supported Ft. Wainwright’s 562nd Engineering Company as a partner. Design Alaska fostered that partnership by inviting them to company picnics and adventures, attending their functions, sending care packages to deployed members of the company, and providing gifts to families with new babies.
  • Design Alaska displays Ice Art at our place of business on College Road for the Fairbanks community to enjoy. For the past several years, this art has been centered around the Design Alaska Family Holiday Celebration Concert, therefore the ice art is a symphony theme.
  • To brighten Fairbanks’ long dark winters, Design Alaska lights up our 60’ spruce tree with LED lights from November 1 to February 1.
  • Design Alaska received the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Business in Arts Award twice in recognition of their commitment to the local artistic community.
  • Design Alaska understands that part of a rewarding professional experience is working in a family friendly environment. Design Alaska offers the opportunity, and encourages its employees, to attend family obligations during the work day. Design Alaska is proud to have twice received the Fairbanks North Star Borough’s Family Friendly Business Award given to those businesses that show exceptional respect for employees’ families.
  • Design Alaska also received the Greater Fairbanks Chamber Youth Friendly Award given to those businesses that show exceptional respect for our youth in the community.
  • Design Alaska has a joint venture with ACS to pick up old phonebooks from businesses in Fairbanks and deliver them to be recycled. This has averaged about 3500 to 4000 phone books every year.
  • Design Alaska supports education in many different ways.
